Live Performances

I recently moved back to my native Paris, France and am working hard to get some regular gigs lined up. I will be playing in Romania and UAE, in addition to gigs in the San Francisco Bay Area during my regular visits.

Instrument Update

The talented and highly in demand guitar maker, Jeff Traugott has been working on a prototype thin body archtop with one or two Humbucking pick ups and no F holes to help cut down feedback problems. I am helping in this process and would like to make this my guitar of choice. Collaborating with Jeff -such skillful artist -is an exciting and educational experience.

I improved my L5 by having the great repair staff at Gryphon Stringed Instruments install The Buzz Feiten Tuning System®. This has greatly improved the overall tuning of the guitar. To learn more about it visit www.buzzfeiten.com.

I now also play on a Heritage guitar, model H 535. It is a great instrument, lighter than my Gibson 335, with very good electronics and a warm tone.

News & Reviews

-Dick LaPalm – April, 2005

"Guitarist, Sebastien Lanson is a most significant harmonic improviser.  He has total control of his instrument, and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of interesting licks.  Notes are picked cleanly and exactly, combining lyricism with great underlying strength.  There's also a surprising degree of variation in his tone.  He's an imaginative player, and a composer of substance."

-Jayne Sanchez – Jazz Oasis, KCSM FM 91.1, San Mateo, California www.kcsm.org

"The remarkable Sebastien Lanson, a guitarist who instantly touches the heart and feeds the soul. His silky lines and impeccable timing is a delightful reminder of how good the guitar can sound and he does it with amazing clarity! Sit back and enjoy"

-Dr. Herb Wong – past president of the International Assn. of Jazz Educators

"Dig Sebastien Lanson's captivating guitar lines - liquid and lyrical- on "Where Did You Go?"

-All About Jazz by Jack Bowers

"... Stanford has several other enterprising soloists, the most prominent among whom are alto saxophonist Chad Hollingsworth...and guitarist Sebastien Lanson (superb on "Where Did You Go?", recorded some years ago on Bellson's album, Dynamite!..)."

-Jamming w/ The Collective West Jazz Orchestra by Jerry Karp

"...The orchestra is led by 28-year-old baritone saxophonist Fil Lorenz, who fell in love with big bands while a member of the prestigious Menlo-Atherton High School Orchestra. While the lineup may change from week to week, the band includes trumpeters John Worley, Joel Ryan and Mike Olmos, guitarist Sebastien Lanson, slide trombonist Grewen, valve trombonist Phil Allen, alto saxophonist Ron Graham, Batchko and Doug Rowan on tenor sax, drummer Brian Fishler, and bassist Fred Randolph. Lorenz handles most of the arranging, with regular contributions from Allen.
These musicians aren't here for the money. They're splitting that three-dollar door 12 ways. It's clear they enjoying playing jazz—with each other, in that basement, for this crowd...."
